I have been wanting to try this place for years, Honestly it's not what it's hyped up to be. The views are definitely a 10/10. And that's pretty much what you are paying for is the location and ambience... The service was great 10/10. The sushi was ok I'd give it a 3/5. The drinks were a 4/5. But everything is expensive, a roll of sushi is about double the price from any other sushi place I've gone to... Overall the restaurant and views are beautiful they have Japans gardens throughout the restaurant where you can walk and take pictures, but the food is not worth the hype..

This review is for a reservation on a Saturday at 8:30 PM. The drive from the main street to the restaurant reminded me of Orange Hills Restaurant. Valet service was straightforward, and checking in for our reservation was just steps away from valet drop-off ($20 for sedans). There is an outdoor bar if you'd like to enjoy a drink while waiting for your table. There are multiple areas to take photos while you wait for your table or after your dining experience. Many guests seemed to be dressed for the occasion, with the intention of capturing the panoramic views and beautiful aesthetics. You could wear almost anything-- even a tuxedo would fit right in. After being seated, our waiter took a while to introduce himself. Once we ordered our starters, we didn't see him for a long time. This wouldn't have been a problem if all of our starters had arrived together or close together. Unfortunately, his lack of attentiveness persisted throughout the evening. At one point, he apologized and offered a complimentary bottle of sparkling water due to the delays, but we never received the water, even after asking multiple times. For starters, we ordered the Kenchinjiru Miso Soup and Spicy Edamame. Unfortunately, the Edamame arrived long after the Miso Soup. For dinner, we ordered the Yellowtail Serrano, Yamashiro Roll, and Baked Lobster Roll. The portion size of the Yellowtail Serrano was small enough to be considered an appetizer. However, everything we tried was delicious. I plan to return to capture the sunset and other dishes.

I just wanted to update my review because Yamashiro completely turned things around and I'm honestly so glad they did. After my first visit didn't go as expected, they reached out and personally invited us back. That alone meant a lot, it showed they truly cared about making things right. This second visit? Absolutely amazing. The Spicy Tuna Crispy Roll was a solid 10/10, way better than the first time. The Sashimi Pizza? So creative and delicious 10/10. The Yellowtail was super fresh and flavorful (9/10), and the Lychee Martinis? 1000/10. I'm not even joking, they were unreal. The ambiance was perfect, the views were incredible, and it honestly felt so nice to be taken care of like that. Our server (a really sweet guy, I wish I remembered his name!) made my friend Cary and I feel so welcomed the entire time. And I have to say, the way everything was handled through Yelp felt so professional and genuine. They really took my feedback seriously, and I respect that so much. Now? I'll be recommending Yamashiro to everyone I know and I've officially decided to host all my birthday dinners here. That's how great the experience was!

Is Yamashiro more expensive than your average sushi restaurant? Yes. Is the restaurant a bit difficult to get to? Yes. Should you dress up to go? Absolutely yes! But it's NOT your average sushi restaurant; once you arrive the views are worth the drive; and you don't HAVE to dress up, but you really should! It's a whole dining experience. You must valet your car. You can Uber too, of course. We even saw some walking up the hill--I would NOT recommend that. There's a great bar as you sit and wait for your table. You can also walk through the beautiful Japanese gardens or visit the hookah bar. If you grab a drink, try the old fashioned with Japanese bourbon. Both the Smokey/peaty bourbon or the Smokey and sweet bourbon are delicious. Neither has a flavor that is overpowering. We ordered the small boat that came with 40 pieces. We were a group of four and had 5 pieces left. Albeit, we started with a couple rolls. Also had the sunomono salad and one person had the miso soup. Not one thing was disappointing. We also ordered the spicey edamame. It wasn't hot spicey but had more of a rich flavor. Not what we expected, but good nonetheless. After all, when fine dining, you hope for more than you expect. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the server brought a plate of green tea cheese cakes (yes TWO pieces) and multiple flavors of macarons. The dessert plate was impressive and even came with a sparkler! There was a live DJ playing great music. The volume was perfect so you could still converse. If you sit outside prepare for wind. It's nothing that can be prevented but take a coat or sweater. You can also request to sit inside in the inner atrium/garden or inside the enclosed dining area. No matter where you sit, there are beautiful views and great ambiance. Valet was fast and these guys have to run a steep driveway. Please plan on paying for valet service AND tip generously.

Such a beautiful & historic restaurant! It is massive so it is generally not super hard to get a table, even when very busy. Food is delicious & you can't really go wrong with any thing you order. It was kind of strange that the menus said "summer 24" and it's April 2025 lol. Our service was incredible at 6:30 pm on a Thursday. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and provided great recommendations! While I would highly recommend going, it is pretty pricey. Table or 4 with 1 drink each was almost $500... we did family style and left full but did not even get a dessert

I went to yamashiro for my birthday dinner, and it was my first time here. We got seated indoors, in a corner table with an entire view of the outside, easily the best table in the house. I indulged in the avocado and crispy rice, the sashimi pizza, the beef noodles, and a toro sushi roll. Honestly... everything was so amazing and there's no way I could choose a favorite. The chef did an outstanding job . The portion sizes are perfect, and everything tasted extremely fresh. I enjoy their unique spin on the dishes with fresh ingredients. Our service was truly impeccable, and we couldn't have had a better experience. This feels like a rooftop restaurant but it's not. Easily the best dinner view in Los Angeles and most instagrammable restaurant if that's your thing. Perfect for birthday dinners, or a romantic date night, or even a first date if you really want to impress. I would come here every night of the week if I could afford it. Thank you for an incredible evening.

Hi! I went here for my birthday back in December and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. We asked if there was a way we could leave our waiter a review because he was so amazing and I just remembered! The view was gorgeous and peaceful! The food felt unique and charming which perfectly suited the vibes we were going for when making a reservation for the night. TJ gave us amazing service and I am super grateful, the conversation and fun vibes were definitely the cherry on top to wrap up an amazing night. Thank you TJ! Knew his way around the menu, gave us the most amazing recommendations, and I definitely would inquire about getting TJ again if we could next time :) Be wary about the parking situation, as it can get pretty packed at dinnertime so the valet gets quite backed up.
